A well-known travel agency has been taken over by Manchester-based group of companies Inc & Co in a multi-million pound deal.
The acquisition of Baldwins Travel by Inc & Co will ensure the travel agency’s presence on the streets of Sussex and Kent.
Founded in 1895, the Tunbridge Wells-based company currently employs more than 50 people in eight branches. All staff will be protected when moving to the new owner.
Investment will enable Baldwins to extricate itself from challenges presented to travel industry during pandemic
Jack Mason, Managing Director of Inc & Co, said: “We are truly delighted to announce the acquisition of Baldwins Travel by Inc & Co, and we will warmly welcome the brand to our growing portfolio of companies.
“Although it has been a difficult year for the entire industry, we are delighted to be able to secure the future of Baldwins’ employees and branches in Kent and Sussex.”
Originally a bookbinder and stationer who began selling train tickets, Baldwins has grown into one of the South Coast’s largest tour operators. It is now present in the streets of Tunbridge Wells, Cranbrook, Lewes, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Tenterden, Tonbridge and Uckfield.
Chris and Nick Marks – former owners of Baldwins – will remain with the company.
They said: “We have sought to ensure that the great name of Baldwins Travel can thrive again, which is why we are so excited to join the Inc & Co team; who not only has a huge passion for travel, but also has the ambition to invest and develop the team, the brand and also the digital potential of the company. “
